"First" Lady Weaves A Tale in Shades of Gold
Retired Army Woman First in Command of Her Third Novel Depicting Powerful Women in Non-traditional Roles

(PressMethod) - HOMESTEAD, FL, JANUARY 30, 2008: Charlotte "Charlie" Kimball Hudson is no ordinary woman. After retiring from a 22-year career, this military war veteran has become a freelance writer and author. Her new murder/mystery novel SHADES OF GOLD (ISBN 978-1-4327-1440-6) released by Outskirts Press portrays the strength of women in roles typically assigned to men.

Hudson experienced a number of "firsts" during her career. She was the first female officer assigned to the 19th Maintenance Battalion in Giessen, Germany; the first female selected to command a maintenance company at Ft. Campbell, Ky.; the first female ROTC instructor at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas; the first female to be designated as the executive officer to the commanding general at the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. and the first female to command the Leghorn Depot in Livorno, Italy.

Hudson is no novice when it comes to taking on non-traditional roles. After graduating from Northwestern State University in 1974, she entered the Army through a special program of the Women's Army Corps (WAC). This was two years before women were commissioned through a test program in selected college Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs. During her extensive military career Hudson was deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and to Haiti in support of Operation Uphold Democracy. She retired from the Army in 1995 as a Lieutenant Colonel. She and her husband, Hugh Hudson, recently moved to South Florida where they can enjoy their love of scuba diving.

Charlie projects her knowledge of the underwater world and her experience as a female authority to create her characters. Her sixth book, SHADES OF GOLD, weaves an intricate tale of Hollywood above and below water as Chris Green gives scuba lessons to the handsome lead actor and other members of the cast. Police Detective Bev Henderson is called upon to unravel the mysterious deaths of three people who apparently have nothing in common. Things get even more complicated when Chris' ex-convict estranged husband comes to town. Tension mounts as Bev begins to question what seems to be an open and shut case of tragic obsession turned violent.

Hudson celebrates the launch of SHADES OF GOLD as a guest on Writers in the Sky Podcast (WITS). The online show about writing, publishing and marketing books is a favorite among book lovers and writers needing more information about the book publishing industry. Charlie's publisher, Outskirts Press, referred her to WITS podcast host and producer Yvonne Perry for help with book promotion. Hudson's interview is scheduled for February 29, 2008 and will be available for download on iTunes as well as from http://yvonneperry.blogspot.com where more than 50 shows are archived.

SHADES OF GOLD can be purchased through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and www.Outskirtspress.com or by request at your favorite bookstore. Log on to www.charliehudson.net to read the complimentary first chapter.
